Behind the Work
“Sakura means the "flowing cherry tree" in Japanese. I created this piece one long day in the studio, moving paint around and really taking time to arrange the shape of things. Heavily influenced by the drawings of Egon Schiele and the ancient Japanese illustrations of cherry blossoms, I fused these two elements and tried to bring a balance to the canvas with these two subjects working in harmony. It’s blooming, colourful and alive.”
