Formally trained in both fashion couture and reupholstery, Sonia Laudet’s creative practice is a playful experiment between fine craftsmanship and her unique artistic vision. Sonia works out of her textile studio in Bayonne in France, where she has primarily focused on reupholstering vintage furniture since 2013. With a keen focus on circularity, Sonia uses discarded textile waste to create everything from furniture to lighting to more recently, fabric collages. Her collage work blends an eccentric mix of colour and shape and is narrated by her own interpretation of everyday experiences: catching eyes with a stranger in a waiting room, staring at the moon from your bedroom window. Using delicate curves and stimulating colour combinations to create what she refers to as poetic, functional and spontaneous design, Sonia’s work is a conscious ode to production and sustainability.
