Behind the Work
“This artwork’s title, José Jones, is named after The Pixies song of the same name. It feels like music coming through my fingers, like a seismograph, onto the paper. What did this cat look like? José Jones? And where is he now? These questions fathomed through this piece, and the accompaniment of the aching son of such a monumental and seminal band. I painted a big monolithic, dumb, perplexed head, staring off into the abyss. We see these sorts of apparitions everywhere, whether we’re conscious of it or not. ”
